South Boston NDC renovated a vacant, blighted historic site into affordable apartments and a commercial space that contribute to the vibrancy of the West Broadway business district. Taylor’s Market is now home to seven low-income families, Sweet Tooth Bakery, and the South Boston NDC offices.
Father Martin Co-operative Housing
South Boston NDC developed 34 units of family co-op housing that were assembled from both city- and privately owned vacant parcels. This development was completed in the spring of 1994.
Castle Cove Senior Housing
South Boston NDC developed 65 low-income elderly apartments financed through the HUD 202 program. This co-op was completed in partnership with Co-operative Services, Inc. in 1997 on the historic site of the Boston Beer Company.
First Time Homebuyer Assistance
South Boston NDC has assisted first time homebuyers through the development of 51 units for purchase in South Boston. This included the development of 14 units across seven sites under the Scattered Sites Project, as well as Costello Homes, a mixture of market rate and affordable units built on formerly vacant lots. In addition, SBNDC completed the Monsignor Lyons development in 2002, which provided affordable homes for working families.
