South Boston NDC welcomes new board member
Meet Christine McConville
Christine McConville, a dedicated real estate professional with a background in journalism and nonprofit leadership, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community development in her new role as a member of the South Boston NDC Board of Directors.
Christine's involvement with South Boston NDC began through her role on the board of the Paraclete Foundation, a nonprofit organization that once provided after-school programming in South Boston. When the Paraclete sold its building to South Boston NDC, Christine became more familiar with the organization’s mission. After completing her time with the Paraclete, South Boston NDC Executive Director Donna Brown reached out to invite her to join the board, an opportunity she eagerly accepted.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have Christine join the South Boston NDC Board of Directors," said Donna. "Christine’s expertise and leadership make her an invaluable addition to our team. We look forward to the energy, insight, and dedication she will bring to our work."
As a board member, Christine is particularly intrigued about South Boston NDC’s work in affordable housing and the many elements to it, such as redevelopment, harnessing public support, and financing. She is passionate about helping families and individuals stay in the community, recognizing the challenges posed by rising housing costs and displacement.
"There’s nothing sadder than seeing people who have rented their whole lives get displaced from their community," she said.
An avid gardener, Christine is also interested in supporting South Boston NDC’s community gardens and Farmers Market. Christine has a personal love for gardening, having worked in environmental education early in her career. She tends to a garden outside of Boston and enjoys growing vegetables on her back deck in City Point.
Christine, who got her Bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a Master’s from Northwestern, is a full-time real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. Owning and managing her own properties fueled her interest in real estate, leading her to become a licensed agent and expand her expertise in property management and renovations.
Prior to getting her real estate license, she was a reporter for the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, covering the Newtown, CT, shootings and the Boston Marathon bombing.
Christine also brings valuable skills in communications, nonprofit fundraising, and event planning to the board. She previously helped lead successful fundraising efforts for the Paraclete and is open to lending her expertise to South Boston NDC’s initiatives.
"I’m eager to learn where the need is,” she said.
As Christine steps into her new role, she looks forward to working alongside fellow board members to support and strengthen the neighborhood. "We are fortunate to live in such a distinctive community and I’m really excited to see South Boston NDC’s role grow and evolve."
We are thrilled to welcome Christine to the South Boston NDC board and look forward to the passion and expertise she will bring to our organization!
