Keeping South Boston affordable for all.

Since 1983, South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation has been dedicated to developing housing that is affordable to seniors, veterans, families, working people, first-time homebuyers, and renters who make South Boston a community and deserve to be able to live here.

Homes for South Boston

South Boston is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Greater Boston and housing prices continue to rise in response to increased demand. Much of the neighborhood is unaffordable for seniors who raised families here (click here for more information about our latest project: McDevitt Senior Homes), young professionals who grew up here, and working families whose incomes have not kept pace with housing costs. We build and preserve housing that is affordable for those who made Southie the community that it is.

Support for Local Businesses

Promoting and assisting local small businesses is at the core of our economic development. Through our deep partnership with the South Boston Chamber of Commerce, we organize business promotion and networking events, including the annual South Boston Street Festival, a neighborhood tradition for more than 24 years, the Spring and Christmas Strolls, and Trick or Treat on Broadway. Our portfolio includes three below-market rental storefronts, currently home to a plant shop and a cafe.

Resources for Residents

From ensuring access to fresh, nutritious food at the South Boston Farmers Market, to creating and preserving open spaces with the Southie Trees and Community Gardens program, we strives to make our neighborhood a better and healthier place to live. Our newest initiative is a collaboration with other neighborhood nonprofits to identify climate change preparation and mitigation goals and leverage our network of resources to achieve them.
