Join me in making an impact in South Boston

Dear friend,

As a lifelong resident of South Boston, I have worked with the neighborhood’s disadvantaged populations since I started my career in the early 1970s working for the “Fun in the Sun” summer camp for kids in the D Street and Old Colony housing developments. From there, I took positions at the Tynan Community Center, the South Boston Boys & Girls Club, and finally Julie’s Family Learning Program.

I believe the best part about living in South Boston is giving back, taking care of our children and families, and our strong sense of community.

Those attributes have informed my career and my role as president of the South Boston NDC Board of Directors. I joined the board 15 years ago to make a difference in our neighborhood.

During my career working with low-income folks, it was apparent that housing – or lack of affordable housing – affects quality of life for all of us. It worsens social issues like homelessness, quality education, and physical and mental health. It’s truly a community issue.

South Boston NDC fights to create and preserve affordable housing in the neighborhood, where long-time residents and potentially new residents are being priced out.

In the past several years, we have created affordable veteran housing (Patriot Homes), senior housing (O’Connor Way), and workforce housing (206 West Broadway). In total, we manage 171 affordable units in South Boston. We currently have an agreement to purchase the Paraclete Foundation’s McDevitt Hall to create 35 affordable units for very low-income seniors.

Please join me in supporting South Boston NDC’s mission to bring more affordable housing to the neighborhood.

Donations of any amount are welcome but note that donations of $1,000 or more to South Boston NDC are eligible for a 50% Massachusetts tax refund through the Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program!

Thank you for your kind consideration.
