A letter from our board president, Bob Monahan

You can make a difference in our neighborhood!

As we approach the end of another remarkable year, I am thrilled to share with you the incredible strides and milestones South Boston NDC has achieved. This year, we are proudly celebrating "40 Years of Building Community," a testament to our unwavering commitment to creating and preserving affordable housing in our beloved South Boston.

Over four decades, our journey has been defined by dedication and progress. We stand tall with a portfolio comprising 171 units of affordable housing, including O'Connor Way Senior Housing, Patriot Homes for our valued veterans, and 206 W. Broadway workforce housing. Our efforts continue to thrive with our latest endeavor, the McDevitt Senior Homes project, a beacon of hope for our community's seniors.

My role on the South Boston NDC Board of Directors isn't merely a professional endeavor — it's part of a lifelong commitment rooted in the very fabric of our community. Having worked with the neighborhood’s disadvantaged populations since the early 1970s, my dedication to South Boston runs deep. It's about giving back, nurturing our families, and fostering our robust sense of community.

Yet, our work is far from over. The pressing issue of affordable housing touches the heart of our community, impacting lives in profound ways. It intertwines with social concerns, affecting homelessness, education, and the physical and mental well-being of our neighbors. It's an issue that resonates with all of us — it's a community issue.

At South Boston NDC, we've been relentless in our fight. We refuse to stand idly by as long-time residents and potential new community members face the threat of being priced out. The creation and preservation of affordable housing stand as our guiding principle, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit.

Our affordable units represent hope, stability, and a chance for a better tomorrow. And now, with the McDevitt Senior Homes project on the horizon, we're poised to make an even greater impact by providing 35 affordable units for deserving low-income seniors.

As we reflect on "40 Years of Building Community," I invite you to join hands with us on this transformative journey. Your support, whether through contributions, advocacy, or spreading awareness, fuels our mission and empowers us to create lasting change.

Please join me in supporting South Boston NDC’s mission to bring more affordable housing to the neighborhood.

Donations of any amount are welcome but note that donations of $1,000 or more to South Boston NDC are eligible for a 50% Massachusetts tax refund through the Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program!

Thank you for your kind consideration.
