Dear Friend,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation is reflecting on what we were able to accomplish in 2021 thanks to generous donations. Here are just a few of the highlights:
Our Farmers Market is the only place in South Boston where our low-income families have access to locally grown produce for free with the HIP program. The market served about 100 low-income families a week this year.
We cut the ribbon on 5 O’Connor Way, our newest senior housing development that boasts 46 affordable apartments. SBNDC currently provides housing to 73 seniors in South Boston.
After a COVID hiatus, the 21st Annual South Boston Street Festival returned full force — with more than 6,000 attendees and almost 90 vendors — to boost our amazing small businesses and allow the neighborhood to reconnect.
The installation of rooftop solar panels and energy-efficient windows continues on our affordable rental buildings to reduce energy use and lower costs to tenants as we make progress toward sustainability.
South Boston’s newest public park and community garden opened at 175 W. First St./174 W. Second St. The community garden features 21 garden plots, water access, and composting.
We’ve had Spring Spruce-Ups and seasonal business promotions, acquired a three-unit rental building on Mitchell Street, distributed Valentines to the neighborhood, received a grant to hire a Small Business Specialist to provide more support to Southie’s small businesses, and distributed more than 100 Care Kits to families in need through the Aid Network.
As you can see, we’ve been busy! In order to continue our mission to address the displacement of low- and moderate-income South Boston residents and improve the quality of life for all of our neighbors, we need your help.
Please consider making a donation today at www.sbndc.org/support-our-work or by check to South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation, 273 D Street, South Boston, MA 02127.
When you give $1,000 or more to South Boston NDC, you are entitled to receive 50% back as part of your Massachusetts tax refund through the Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program.
Thank you so much for your continued support as we move forward to 2022!
With deep gratitude,
Donna Brown, Executive Director
