SBNDC Seeks a Small Business Specialist
Overview
South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation (SBNDC) seeks a part-time Small Business Specialist to help South Boston’s small businesses improve their processes and policies and build broad support and awareness of the South Boston Chamber of Commerce’s work and impact in the South Boston neighborhood.
A state-certified nonprofit community development corporation founded by local residents in 1983, SBNDC’s core mission is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. Economic development -- including supporting small locally owned businesses -- is a major component of this mission. Since 2016, South Boston NDC has provided financial, administrative, and operational support to the South Boston Chamber of Commerce.
The Small Business Specialist will be responsible for helping to stabilize or grow existing local small businesses, especially minority- and women-owned business establishments (MWBEs).
This is an ideal opportunity for a driven, persistent, experienced professional with a strong track record of owning a small business or working with small businesses.

Work Location
This role offers a flexible location and schedule. The Small Business Specialist will be expected to meet with Donna Brown on a regular basis at SBNDC’s office (located at 273 D Street, South Boston), and will be encouraged to work remotely and within the neighborhood for the majority of the time.
Schedule
Flexible schedule of 20-30 hours per week
Responsibilities
Work with business owners to develop individualized strategies for increasing or stabilizing revenue, increasing or preserving employment opportunities, increasing market share, and accessing growth capital
Discuss operational challenges and evaluate business data to identify areas of opportunities
Provide outreach and technical assistance
Help certify eligible minority- and women-owned businesses
Provide specialized short-term assistance with marketing and social media coaching and IT support
Offer application assistance for available post-pandemic grants, and similar
Compile a directory of LGBTQ-owned businesses
Compensation
$25-$30 per hour, commensurate upon experience

Qualifications
Required
Experience working with small businesses
Excellent written communication skills
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Persistent and personable
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with social media platforms and experience using social media in a professional setting
Desired
Familiarity with South Boston or a desire to learn about the community
