Capo executive pastry chef brings pastries, bread to farmers market
Chocolate chip cookie croissants at the South Boston Farmers Market? Loaves of delicious bread?
Yes, please!!
The South Boston Farmers Market is growing!
Marissa Hart, the executive pastry chef at Capo, Lincoln, Hunter’s, and Prima, will be bringing baked goods to the market this year, which opens on Monday, June 3.
“We have a lot of these products that we make for all of the different restaurants, but we haven't really had an opportunity to have a storefront or really get them directly to the neighborhood,” she said. “We want to let the neighborhood know that we can make some of these things.”
Donna Brown, executive director of South Boston NDC, which oversees the Farmers Market, is excited to have new vendors like Marissa provide more shopping opportunities for our neighbors. “We are thrilled to have Marissa’s delicious, high-quality pastries and bread at the market.”
The chocolate chip cookie croissant is a favorite for Marissa. “It's an ooey gooey chocolate chip cookie on the inside rolled into a croissant. That will be fun for the neighborhood.”
The bread – including ciabatta, focaccia, and sesame loaf – will also be a big attraction. After hearing from neighbors that they really want bread, Marissa and her team are happy to oblige. “Our bread will be a main focus.”
Market-goers will also find cookies, brownies, donuts, bagels, muffins, croissants, rolls, and fun colorful items for the kids.
Marissa is particularly excited about the breakfast items. “A lot of our croissants and breakfast pastries are something that we've been working on for a long time and not really have had anywhere for them to go. So, I'm excited to see the reception of those.”
Many of the items Marissa plans to bring to the market are not available in the restaurants.
“Our plan is to change it up every week,” Marissa said. “There's a lot of different things that we can make, so we’ll just kind of see what sells. It won’t be a set menu every week.”
Capo is right across the street from the Farmers Market so Marissa and her team will bake on Monday morning and roll the products over to the market. She will have promotional materials available at her table that outlines their catering options and custom cake program.
The graduate of Johnson & Wales who hails from upstate New York has spent her culinary career in Boston, two years at the Seaport Hotel and the last six years with the Capo group. “I always liked the creative outlet aspect of it.”
She hopes having a table at the Farmers Market will allow her to connect more with the neighborhood.
“I think it‘s going to be great,” she said. “I hope it brings some people to the market. I think it's a good thing on Monday morning getting people out and about.”
