Attention local makers: Michaela’s Market is seeking vendors to pop up in her temporary space at South Boston NDC’s Taylor’s Market location.

“I’m looking for people who are interested in expanding and growing their own personal businesses,” said Michaela Colvin, who has the space at 369 W. Broadway until July 1, 2023. 

Michaela has her own Etsy shop and attends craft fairs but she had wanted a physical space to ply her craft. Late last year, she got that opportunity while South Boston NDC searches for a permanent tenant after Sweet Tooth Bakery closed its doors. 

Michaela wants to share that opportunity with others.

The Market allows people to find unique handmade items, ask questions, and get personal attention. The buyer can also get the backstory about an item so they are more aware of all the work that goes into creating.

“People should be acknowledged and rewarded for the things that they're good at,” Michaela said.

In addition to Michaela’s knitted and crocheted items, she features vendors who make soap, fluid paintings, honey, sublimation, hand-blown glass pendants, scrunchies (by a 14-year-old maker), and more. 

She also offers classes and workshops on a variety of mediums, including knitting and crochet, paint pouring, T-shirt making, silk scarf decorating, terrarium making, soap-making, bracelet making. Because the space is small, she offers eight seats per class and they are always more than half full. 

“We've gotten a lot of great feedback,” Michaela said, noting people appreciate having an activity and a reason to go out.

Michaela is looking ahead as her run at Taylor’s Market nears its end.

“It's a pop-up that we can build on to become something that can transfer to somewhere else,” she said. 

She will hopefully look for a physical space somewhere else, preferably in South Boston or Dorchester. She wants to keep offering classes and workshops and continue to make new connections and strengthen her network with other creators.

And she will expand her online presence. “Getting on to Etsy was really helpful for me years ago, but being able to grow in person is also helping you grow online. That was my biggest thing until we were here.”
