Staff spotlight: Meet Lynda, O’Connor Way Resident Manager

There are many things to consider when designing a residential building specifically for seniors, and they aren’t all as visible as handrails and ramps. One of the key senior-friendly features at O’Connor Way Senior Homes is the presence of an on-site resident manager.

The resident manager lives in the building and is responsible for maintaining the well-being and health and safety of residents. This was a critical role to fill before residents began moving in, and we are excited to welcome lifelong South Boston resident Lynda Errico to the SBNDC team as the O’Connor Way Resident Manager!

Lynda grew up in the former Old Harbor housing development (now the Mary Ellen McCormack development), graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School, and raised her two children in Southie.

“I’m a lifer,” says Lynda. “I’ve been from Old Harbor, to the Point, and back down to Old Harbor. I just love my town!”

Lynda’s 40-year career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, her more recent work at the Gavin Foundation, and her knowledge of the neighborhood made her an excellent fit for the resident manager position.

“We are thrilled to have Lynda on the team at O’Connor Way,” said Donna Brown, SBNDC Executive Director. “Lynda brings a depth of professional experience and knowledge of the neighborhood that make her the perfect person to have on-site for residents, and she has a genuine love for South Boston and warmth that will help build a community at O’Connor Way.”

To no one’s surprise, Lynda knew the first two residents to move into the building, who were also longtime South Boston residents. Those who are new to South Boston will benefit from Lynda’s knowledge of the neighborhood, her background in nursing and human services, and her positive and welcoming attitude.

Lynda will work closely with Carole Sullivan, the South Boston Neighborhood House’s Senior Advocate, who will organize activities for residents and help them access resources and services. One of the first challenges will be keeping the seniors safe throughout the move-in process and making sure they all are able to get vaccinated.

That has required limiting how many residents can move in (one at a time), disinfecting the building between move-ins, and restricting use of the common areas for the time being. It is a big challenge, but one that Lynda is up to.

“I am so forever grateful to SBNDC for giving me this opportunity,” said Lynda. “I’m delighted!”

So are we, Lynda!
