Jim Brock wins Small Business Leadership Award
Jim Brock has been a pillar in the neighborhood for decades as a small business owner (Boston Home Inspectors), philanthropist, volunteer, and all-around great guy.
He was also one of the driving forces behind the creation of the South Boston Street Fest.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the neighborhood, Jim is the 2023 recipient of the Thomas J. Butler South Boston Small Business Leadership Award that will be presented at the 23rd South Boston Street Fest on Saturday, Sept. 23.
South Boston Street Fest set for Sept. 16, 2023!
The South Boston Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation, is thrilled to announce that the highly anticipated 23rd South Boston Street Fest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023. East Broadway between I and L streets will be transformed into a vibrant and lively hub of festivities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SBNDC Spotlight: West First Community Gardeners
“Community” is as important as “garden” for the growers at the West First Community Garden.
“That's been the best part … we became a real community in terms of helping each other, taking care of each other's garden when someone's on vacation,” said Wendy Ballinger, who has had a plot in the West First garden for three years. Gardeners share plants, seeds, and their harvests.

Mercy Robinson is a force to be reckoned with. Her work in the community has helped spark change and understanding.
The executive director of South Boston En Accion brings that determination to the South Boston NDC Board of Directors.
