Home for the Holidays at O’Connor Way
We are thrilled to announce that next month tenants will begin moving into the 46 brand-new affordable homes for seniors at 5 O’Connor Way. Despite a months-long moratorium on construction in the spring, the first O'Connor Way tenants will be in their new homes for the holidays.
The one-bedroom apartments and shared spaces at O’Connor Way are specifically designed for older residents, and the building features an elevator, a community room with a kitchen, a rear patio, laundry facilities, an on-site resident manager and central air conditioning.
SBNDC is also working with the South Boston Neighborhood House to provide a part-time senior coordinator to organize activities and assist residents with accessing services.
O'Connor Way is the first project SBNDC has built specifically for older residents. One of our favorite features is the "bag drop" shelf outside each apartment – the perfect place to set down a bag or other items while retrieving your keys.
Hallways and restrooms also feature hand rails and grab bars to help with mobility, bathrooms have step-in showers, and each apartment has a video doorbell to allow residents to see who is at the front door. A generous donation of framed art from Liberty Mutual will adorn the hallways and shared spaces of the building.
Final touches are being made to the building but we were able to explore the building a bit this week – get a sneak peek with the photo tour below!
